eReatah E-book Subscription Venture Launches Beta – “eReatah” is a new ebook subscription site that will offer books from “Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Simon & Schuster, Workman, Sourcebooks, Ingram Content Group, Diversion Books, Open Road Integrated Media, and others” for a pretty hefty subscription fee. $16.99 will get you two books per month and $25.50 will get you three. I get two audio books from Audible for less than the cost of an eReetah subscription. Clearly the romance reader is not their target audience. They say that you own your books but only in so far as anyone “owns” digital content that is DRM’ed. Publishers Weekly

How Marilyn Monroe changed Ella Fitzgerald’s life – We objectify Marilyn Monroe quite a bit. She’s known more for her pouty mouth and her upblown skirt more than anything so it was quite nice to read this article about how she helped Ella Fitzgerald get a real chance in the industry. In the 50s, the biggest club for was Mocambo in Hollywood but Ella Fitzgerald wasn’t allowed through the doors because she was black. Marilyn Monroe called the owner and told him that if he allowed Fitzgerald to sing, Marilyn would come every night and sit in the front row. Because of her celebrity power, the owner agreed and Ella’s star was highlighted. Ella wrote “after that I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.” Groove Notes
Women Who Have Never Had Decent Sex Outraged By Warped Fantasy Movie Casting – I’m not sure what makes people lash out against romance novels like this but Pajiba writes that only those people who are NOT having good sex or who has never had good sex would read “these books” referring to novels with sex scenes. Pajiba h/t to Brie at Romance Around the Corner.
“You may think I’m joking, but look around you—if you know someone who legitimately loves these books, who gets the funny squirmies while reading them, who won’t shut the fuck up about Charlie Hunnam, this person has never had good sex.”
This is actually been disproven by at least one scientific study According to a scientific study conducted by Harold Leitenberg of The Journal of Sex Research and Psychological Bulletin, women who read romance or erotic novels have 74% more sex with their partners than those who don’t.
This is because women fantasize more frequently, and have more intense and realistic fantasies, when they read suggestive content. The report states that women not only have more sex, but are having better sex by engaging in more playful, and a wider variety of erotic activities. In fact, according to The Fertility Advocate, the use of reading to boost sexual desire is called Bibliotherapy and is recommended by therapists to encourage women to get their groove on in the bedroom.
